This year we had many deserving applicants which made the job of the WYBA Annual Scholarship Committee very challenging.  This year the committee consisted of Ed Brown, Christy Desisto, Judy Bella, Matt Cotter, Chris Liona, Joe Mario, Angela Mulhern, Tom Parish, and Bill Templeton. We devoted ourselves to this effort and feel we made outstanding choices.

In developing criteria for this award, one aspect became very important.  The committee felt very strongly that this person, among their other attributes, had to be someone who embodied all the best things about the WYBA.   He or she must be a great teammate, a player who gives everything on the court, exhibits excellent sportsmanship and is always there to depend on.  These things have nothing to do with skill but everything to do with desire, respect, loyalty and fun.  This was a must for all applicants in order to be considered further.

Because we are so fortunate to have had many applicants meeting the above criteria, we also looked at years of participation as a player as well as the applicant’s direct involvement with giving back to the WYBA in a variety of ways.  In every case, this made all the difference.

Congratulations to all of you on your accomplishments!
